Last Saturday, the Alameda County Fire Department was challenged by a 2-alarm structure fire in San Leandro's 800 block of Melcher Street. The blaze, first reported at about 2:00 a.m., required the response of roughly two dozen firefighters, including two battalion chiefs. According to a social media post from the Alameda County Fire Department, fire personnel successfully rescued a person and two animals. In contrast, the fire principally threatened the backyard, as well as three adjacent buildings.
Engine 10's quick action ensured that the fire did not completely overtake the main house, although it sustained smoke and fire damage. A post from EastBayFirePhoto on Instagram detailed, "firefighters quickly entered the structure and located the woman and brought her to safety, and awaiting EMS crews." After being displaced by the fire, four community members found assistance from the Red Cross. Together with their two dogs, they faced the uncertainty accompanying such upheaval, as thankfully, there were no major injuries.
The strenuous efforts of the firefighters kept the fire from spreading beyond its initial catchment, bringing it under control within approximately 50 minutes. A post on the EastBayFirePhoto Instagram account provided a vivid recount of the incident, celebrating the successful reunion of the dog with its owners amidst the chaotic atmosphere.
