The Silver Lake-Salem Joint 1 School District found itself amidst troubling revelations when an educational assistant, Anna Marie Crocker, was accused of sexual misconduct involving children. In response to the allegations, the school board convened on Monday and made the decision to terminate Crocker’s employment, as reported by FOX6Now. Crocker, 33, faces charges of first-degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 13, possession of child pornography, and child sexual exploitation.
Details provided in court documents, which came to light last week, indicate that Crocker is accused of sexually assaulting a current and a former student. One of the victims, a 12-year-old boy, alleged that Crocker forced him to engage in sexual acts despite his objections, he told investigators "he told her repeatedly to get off of him, but she would not listen," as featured in WISN. The board dismissed Crocker, who began working as a substitute in the district in 2020 before transitioning to a full-time role, swiftly following her arrest.
Brian Hopkins, president of the Silver Lake-Salem School Board, emphasized the district’s firm stance on such matters, stating "The Silver Lake-Salem joint school district takes this matter extremely seriously," and "The safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority. Anyone who seeks to harm or prey on children will not have a place in our school community," as reported by CBS58. In light of these events, the community anticipates Crocker’s upcoming court appearance scheduled for Thursday, October 17.
While Crocker remains in custody, her defense attorney has declared her claim of innocence. A bond of $500,000 was set following the charges, and the case continues to develop as authorities encourage anyone with pertinent information to contact Detective Moro at the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, according to information from WISN.
