A mundane dispute over the packaging of purchased ice escalated dramatically at a Seattle Shell gas station early yesterday morning, resulting in shots fired and a bullet shattering the window of a neighborhood business. The incident began around 1:45 a.m. at the gas station located at 511 South Dearborn Street, when a 21-year-old Issaquah man and a gas station clerk entered into a conflict regarding an ice container.
The altercation, with details provided by KOMO News, took a dangerous turn when the clerk locked, and then reopened the station's doors. After the exchange, the man demonstrated an unsettling motion by lifting and releasing his coat before heading back to his vehicle.
As the customer drove away, the clerk reportedly pursued and discharged a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson handgun at the departing car, as KIRO 7 reports.
The clerk, whose actions disrupted the early morning calm, now faces several charges. These include first-degree assault, aiming or discharging firearms, dangerous weapons, and second-degree malicious mischief, as confirmed by KING 5. He has been booked into the King County Jail following his arrest. Subsequently, officers recovered the handgun used in the incident as well as shell casings at the scene.
The repercussions of the shots fired went beyond the immediate confrontation, a single bullet pierced the window of a nearby business, resulting in approximately $1,000 in damages, this detail also comes from the KING 5 report. Police officers, who were attending to a DUI call in close proximity, witnessed the shooting unfold and quickly intervened.
