Parents and children in Collierville have a new community resource to look forward to, as the Shelby Literacy Center gears up to host an ESL & Reading Activity Day specifically designed for children ages 4 to 8. Scheduled for November 9 and December 14, 2024, in the children's area, the event promises a series of interactive games and activities aimed at fostering literacy and reading skills among ESL students.
The two-day program, detailed in a recent release on the town's website, is set to quickly help build English vocabulary and reading confidence. November's session will focus directly on familiarizing children with the alphabet, ensuring that the core building blocks of language are in place.
Maggie Allen, a Girl Scout Ambassador, is slated to present the activities. With her guidance, children are expected to engage in a transformative learning experience that combines fun with educational growth. This joint effort with the Shelby Literacy Center also encourages parents to participate, creating an environment where learning continues even beyond the sessions.
The initiative is part of a broader effort to support literacy and language learning within Collierville's diverse community. The events are not only free but also demonstrate a commitment to accessible education, empowering young learners to actively engage in their language acquisition journey. According to the town's announcement, each month's activities are carefully crafted to "make learning a blast," recognizing the intrinsic value of enjoying the educational process.
