An officer-involved shooting at the DeConcini Port of Entry in Nogales, Arizona, has left one person injured. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the incident occurred on Wednesday and prompted a response from various law enforcement agencies, including the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations. The injured individual was taken to a hospital in Tucson.
According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), no federal officers were seriously injured in the incident. The identity of the injured person and the circumstances of the shooting are still unclear. The CBP's Office of Professional Responsibility is investigating, and traffic around the port was temporarily affected, with southbound lanes to Mexico closed for several hours and reduced northbound traffic, as reported by Arizona's Family’s.
After the incident, the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Inspector General was informed, increasing oversight of the situation. This shooting was part of a larger trend, being the 31st officer-involved shooting outside Maricopa County and the 74th in Arizona for the year.
More reports on the situation are expected as investigators gather details. The DeConcini Port of Entry reopened later, but the closure affected those rerouted.
