Skagit County residents will soon have an easier way to handle permit applications with a new online permitting system launching on November 12. The Planning and Development Services Department is introducing this software, created with Tyler Technologies, to streamline the permit process for everyone involved, according to the Skagit County press release.

As the transition to the new system occurs, there will be a pause in accepting online permit applications from November 1 to November 12. During this time, paper applications will be accepted but won't be processed until the new system is active. The county is inviting the public to an online webinar on November 4 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. to demonstrate the new software and answer questions.

The new platform, called Civic Access, will be easy to use and allow applicants to apply for permits, track their status, request inspections, pay invoices, and more through the Skagit County website. For those who prefer in-person help, the county will still offer permit applications at the Planning and Development Services counter, where a new customer kiosk will be available.

The old permitting software, Permits Plus, has been in use since 1997 and is now outdated, making the switch to Civic Access essential. This update aims to streamline the permit process, reduce processing times, and improve customer service. The new system will also keep and manage historical permit data, ensuring past records remain accessible as the county works to stay current and efficient with technology.
