Snellville residents who need to safely dispose of expired or unused medication will soon have the opportunity at a local event. The Snellville Police Department is teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Agency to host a Drug Take Back event next Saturday, October 26. According to the department's announcement, the event is an effort to prevent drug abuse and theft by providing a safe way to dispose of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

The drop-off event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Snellville Police Department, located at 2315 Wisteria Drive. Participants will have the option to quickly drive up or to casually walk up and deposit medications into designated drop boxes. Officials from the police department advise that medications can be left in their original containers, labels present or removed, since all items collected are bound to be incinerated.

However, the police are urging residents not to bring needles or any sharp objects for disposal at this event. As per a notice on the Snellville city website, these items will not be accepted.

For more details, individuals interested in participating or those who have further questions about acceptable items can contact Lt. A. Sullivan. Sullivan can be reached at [email protected] or by calling 770-985-3555, as stated on the event’s official news post.
