St. Charles County residents can brace themselves for early delivery of their personal property tax statements this year but in a digital format. Beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 22, the county's personal property tax can be viewed online through the official Collector's Office website, before the traditional paper statements are sent out in November, as reported by  St. Charles County's official announcement.

In a move that seems aimed at simplifying life for their taxpayers, Michelle McBride, the Collector of Revenue, has stated that individuals who signed up for eAlerts will be notified via text or email when their tax statement is ready. This early peek could be a boon for those eager to clear their dues pronto. "If you’re a taxpayer and you want to get your bill out of the way, just go online and pay. The convenience fee for an e-check is a flat $1.50, not that much more than the price of a stamp, and you won’t have the stress of worrying about whether your payment made it to the Collector’s Office," McBride was quoted in a statement obtained by the St. Charles County's news release.

Further reinforcing the digital push, the county assures immediate confirmation for online payments along with the added benefit of sending a mailed receipt post-transaction—an option for those seeking tangible proof of payment. Despite the shift to digital, physical bills for those who haven't settled their account will still find their way into mailboxes come November, with some showing an amalgamation of personal property tax and real estate tax on a single statement.

While all seems set for personal property tax, those looking to access their real estate property tax bills online must meet with a slight delay until mid-November. This postponement is attributed to the Collector’s Office needing information that can arrive as late as Oct. 15, crucial for compiling these statements. "The reason we’re doing this is to give the Collector’s Office more time to prepare documents that will be included in the November mailers for those who qualified for the Senior Property Tax Freeze," McBride informed according to the same announcement. The property tax landscape in St. Charles County is marked by over 182,000 personal property tax bills and about 130,000 real estate tax bills to be issued this year. Payments for 2024 tax bills turned delinquent come Jan. 1, 2025, and will incur statutory late payment interest and penalties from that date forward.
