As an atmospheric tumult broods on the horizon, St. Johns County is making vital changes to its waste management services. Residents should take note that, due to the anticipated severe weather conditions, recycling services will be momentarily halted to prioritize the burgeoning demands of yard waste collection—a matter of both practicality and public safety. The pivot in services will commence from today, Oct. 8, through Friday, Oct. 11, and recycling collection is slated to resume on the following Monday, Oct. 14, weather permitting.
To rapidly respond to the storm's impending threat, FCC Environmental is set to deploy additional crews, including external contractors wielding grapple trucks, explicitly to quickly grapple with yard waste collection. To supplement these efforts and to increase overall efficiency, County Road and Bridge crews will also contribute their labor to the cause. Despite these changes, officials maintain that household garbage collection will proceed uninterrupted on its regular schedule.
In the spirit of communal cooperation, residents are encouraged to personally deliver yard waste to the County’s Tillman Ridge or Stratton Road Transfer Stations. The County assures that there will be no fee attached to this service. Holding steadfast to their normal operating hours, these facilities welcome public contributions Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. For detailed locations, interested parties can consult the St. Johns County website.
For those seeking guidance or answers to their queries, the St. Johns County Emergency Management Citizen Information Hotline at 904-824-5550, is now actively open.
