St. Johns County recently marked a day of intercultural celebration and solidarity with its Jewish residents by observing the St. Johns County – Israel Friendship Day on October 15th. St. Johns County's official website shines a light on this special event, which honored the close ties between the County and Israel, and celebrated the Jewish community's contribution to the area's cultural richness.
In a ceremony filled with community leaders and representatives, Commissioner Sarah Arnold underscored the importance of the day, stating, "St. Johns County – Israel Friendship Day is a celebration of our vibrant Jewish community and the enduring bonds we share with Israel." Arnold articulated a future built on mutual respect and collaboration, sentiments that were echoed throughout the event. A document declaring November 8th, 2024, as St. Johns County Israel Day was also presented by Commissioner Henry Dean, bolstering this annual commitment.
A diverse group participated in the recognition event, including rabbis from local synagogues and members from the Jewish Federation and Foundation of Northeast Florida. Their presence highlighted the historical and ongoing involvement of the Jewish people in the community since the 16th century and the founding of the first synagogue in 1898.
