
St. Louisans can expect light rain and cooler temperatures today, with highs only reaching the mid-50s. There’s a slight chance of rain in the early morning, which will shift to cloudy skies before gradually clearing later in the day. The forecast states, "A 20 percent chance of rain before 8am. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 57. North wind 8 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph," according to the National Weather Service reports.
As night falls, temperatures are expected to drop into the high 30s, signaling a time for gardeners to pay attention. The National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued a frost advisory effective from 1 AM to 9 AM CDT on Wednesday. "Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered," the advisory warns. Residents in the advisory areas are advised to protect tender plants from the impending cold.
A frost advisory is in effect for a broad area, including parts of south central and southwest Illinois, as well as east central and southeast Missouri, where temperatures could drop to 33°F, posing a risk to outdoor vegetation. Towns affected include Salem, Vandalia, Chester, Sparta, and cities like St. Louis, Belleville, Centralia, Alton, Edwardsville, and Cahokia. However, warmer weather is on the horizon, with temperatures expected to rise to around 60°F by Wednesday and continue to climb to approximately 75°F by Monday, as reported by the National Weather Service.
