Residents in St. Tammany Parish will have another opportunity to ensure their hazardous household items are disposed of safely. Parish President Mike Cooper announced that Keep St. Tammany Beautiful is set to host a second Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day this fall, according to the St. Tammany Parish Government recent release.
The event is scheduled for November 16, and will take place at Northshore Square Mall's parking lot in Slidell, from 8 a.m. to noon. Limited to the first 500 cars that pre-register, Slidell residents must secure a spot online for their hazardous castoffs. A gesture meant to safeguard both human health and the environment, President Cooper stated in the St. Tammany Parish Government press release, "These hazardous waste collection days give our citizens a chance to properly dispose of the harmful items around their home, which protects their health and our environment." Added to that, Cooper expressed pride in the team's efforts for planning what amounts to the third such event this year.
With the Keep St. Tammany Beautiful initiative, participants can rid of a variety of unwanted materials, encompassing electronic wastes, paints, pesticides, and other items typically not collected during regular trash services. Still, there remain items that count as ineligible for the drop-off; a full list of accepted (and not accepted) items is detailed on Keep St. Tammany Parish Government event page.
In a press release, President Cooper encouraged, "I encourage all of our citizens to gather all of your recyclable and hazardous waste from your homes and let us properly dispose of it," as per the St. Tammany Parish Government. The focus of which being a collective step towards preserving the environmental sanctity of the community. A gesture simple in its complexity, these collection days are a part of a larger strategy aiming to reduce the ecological footprint of the parish.
