A tense SWAT operation that unfolded in south Charlotte has drawn to a close, with a man taken into custody after negotiations ended the barricade situation without injury, authorities confirmed. The incident, which was initially reported in the early hours of Monday, led to major disruptions as sections of Woodlawn Road between South Boulevard and Park Road were sealed off during the crisis.
According to the WBTV, officers were dispatched to an apartment in the 1100 block of Woodlawn Road following reports of an armed individual. Negotiators spent hours trying to bring the situation to a peaceful resolution while residents were asked to avoid the area. At one point, tear gas was deployed to flush the suspect from their position, found locked inside the apartment after reportedly screaming since 1 a.m., a witness told WCNC Charlotte.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police reported that an individual was "armed with a weapon," but details about the weapon are not available. The situation was "peacefully resolved," ending a standoff that had disrupted daily life along Woodlawn Road, as reported by WCNC Charlotte. While no injuries were reported, the exact details surrounding the suspect's motives and whether a hostage was involved remain unclarified.
