Authorities arrested a juvenile at Theron L. Swainston Middle School in North Las Vegas this past Wednesday after discovering a gun on the student, reports indicate. According to News 3, the gun was confiscated by the school administration before any threats could manifest. The principal of Swainston Middle School, Teresa Evans, informed parents and guardians in a statement that weapons are completely prohibited on school premises and that the incident should serve as a reminder.
Following the seizure of the firearm, the Clark County School District Police Department conducted an investigation and proceeded to quickly arrest the student, as confirmed by FOX5 Las Vegas. In her message to the school community, Evans emphasized the school's policy on weapons, writing, "Due to privacy laws, we are unable to discuss individual student matters, however, this event serves as a reminder that weapons of any kind are not permitted on campus," a statement obtained by News 3.
No warnings or threats involving the gun had been reported. The school, while dealing with the immediate consequences, is seeking to proactively further ensure the safety of its students. Evans is encouraging parents to have conversations with their children about the importance of school safety and the responsibility that comes with it.
