A possible head-on crash near Sahara Avenue and Tenaya Way sent one person to the hospital and forced the closure of a stretch of westbound Sahara on Thursday morning, according to Las Vegas police. Officers responded to the area, close to Rainbow, around 11:27 a.m. after reports came in of a collision between two vehicles.
Police said one person was transported to a nearby hospital, though the extent of that person's injuries remained unknown, according to fox5vegas.com. Medical crews were still on scene assisting the occupant of the second vehicle as the investigation continued, the outlet reported. The intersection remained blocked off while officers worked to piece together what happened.
Westbound Lanes Shut Down During Investigation
Westbound Sahara Avenue was closed from Montessouri Street to Tenaya Way as crews worked the scene, per KLAS 8 News Now. The closure affected a key stretch of the west valley roadway during the midday hours, though it was not immediately clear when the road would reopen or what alternate routes drivers used in the meantime.
At least two vehicles appeared to be involved in the crash, with one showing significant front-end damage, the station's report noted. Details about what led to the collision, along with the identities and conditions of those involved, were not released as the investigation got underway.
Not the First Closure on This Stretch of Sahara
Thursday's crash echoes a similar incident in February, when a collision shut down all westbound lanes of Sahara Avenue after Buffalo Drive, a few miles east of Thursday's scene, according to news3lv.com. In that case, police said one person was ejected from a vehicle and taken to the hospital, and officials said the collision may have been related to a medical event.
As of Thursday afternoon, the investigation into the Sahara and Tenaya Way crash remained ongoing, with police yet to release further details on the cause or the conditions of those hospitalized.
