Houstonians can expect to enjoy some sun and seasonably warm temperatures heading into mid-October, according to the latest weather updates. Today's forecast looks sunny with a high near 88 degrees, accompanied by a light north wind ranging between 5 to 10 mph, and gusts reaching up to 20 mph, as reported by the National Weather Service. Tonight's conditions are projected to remain clear, with a low around 63 degrees.
Despite Hurricane Milton stirring the weather patterns over the southeastern Gulf of Mexico, Houston seems poised to maintain its calm weather streak. The Heat Index Outlook indicates that the region will be experiencing cooler highs, with temperatures ranging from the mid-80s to low 90s. Evening temperatures are expected to comfortably drop into the upper 50s to low 60s for most of the area, likely a respite after the cold front that recently moved through. This front is also projected to gently hold the heat at bay going into the latter part of the week with consistent sunny skies and clear nights.
Today will be a tad cooler than the past few days thanks to a cold front that pushed through. High temperatures this afternoon will be in the mid-80s to low 90s, and low temperatures tonight down into the upper 50s to low 60s for most of the area. #HOUwx #TXwx pic.twitter.com/iNfwgq2veT

Conversely, the state of Florida is preparing to rather brace itself for potential severe weather as Hurricane Milton advances. The Storm Prediction Center issued a statement that "There is a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms across parts of central/south Florida and the Keys," with an isolated tornado threat linked to the hurricane's progression. The advisory also mentions increased conducive low-level shear for updraft rotation and tornado potential due to the outer banding from Hurricane Milton possibly reaching Florida late tonight into Wednesday morning.
While Houston’s weather remains clear and sunny, the next few days will see temperatures rise marginally higher. The forecast by the National Weather Service calls for sunny days with highs touching near 90 degrees. Clear nights with comfortable lows in the mid-60s are anticipated to persist, leading up to another sunny Columbus Day with a high near 90. Although Houston seems set to enjoy a stretch of fair weather, officials are closely monitoring the situation and have hinted that adjustments to forecasts might be prompted, should the hurricane shift course and intensify.
