Following the fatal shooting of a teenager in Northwest D.C. earlier this year, law enforcement officials have confirmed the arrest of a suspect. The Metropolitan Police Department stated in a release that 26-year-old Tariq White of Raleigh, North Carolina, was apprehended by the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force in Virginia yesterday. White was sought on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant for the charge of Second Degree Murder while Armed, as reported by MPDC.
On May 18, just after 3 a.m., officers responded to a shooting report on the 1200 block of V Street, Northwest. The victim, 16-year-old Devon Sharp, was found with a gunshot wound. Despite being taken to a local hospital, Sharp passed away on May 20 after doctors' efforts to save him were unsuccessful. After exhausting all leads, detectives identified the alleged shooter five months later.
The incident has once again sparked concern over gun violence and youth safety within D.C.'s community. Details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting have not been disclosed at this time. The investigation into Devon Sharp's death and the subsequent legal proceedings for Tariq White remain ongoing.
