Early this morning in southwest Oklahoma City, a suspect was shot after exchanging gunfire with police during a high-speed pursuit. The incident began when police officers attempted to pull over a driver near Southwest 59th Street and May Avenue, leading to a chase when the suspect fled the area. During the course of the pursuit, the suspect reportedly stopped multiple times to fire at the officers before coming to a halt at a residence near Southwest 64th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, as reported by KOCO 5.
Master Sgt. Gary Knight from the Oklahoma City Police Department detailed how the suspect "continued to fire" upon stopping at a residence, and subsequently, the suspect was struck when officers returned fire, this sequence of events leaving the suspect as the only injured party taken to a hospital, according to KFOR. A passenger in the vehicle attempted to escape on foot but was quickly detained by law enforcement, and as of now, the suspect's motives for evading the traffic stop remain unclear, with further details withheld pending the ongoing investigation.
Adding to the narrative, News 9 reports that the three officers involved have since been placed on routine administrative leave, as is customary in officer-involved shootings, the names of the suspects and the officers have not been released at this time. The specifics of the suspect's condition have yet to be shared with the public.
