In what unfolded as a series of road rage episodes culminating in one fatality and multiple injuries, a driver has been taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Santa Rosa. The series of incidents seems to have been sparked by road rage, following a sequence of intentional crashes by a Mazda SUV. According to a post from the CHP Santa Rosa's Facebook page, officers responded to the fatal crash last Saturday, around 2:04 pm on Stony Point Road, where the aftermath of chaos left one person dead and several injured.
The situation began when a Mazda SUV initiated contact multiple times with a Volkswagen SUV traveling in the same direction, thrusting into oncoming traffic and colliding with a northbound Mercedes for reasons not yet clear to the public. As a result, the Volkswagen's right front passenger was pronounced dead on the scene. In contrast, its driver and child passenger, along with the Mercedes occupants, sustained major injuries and were rushed to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. The Mazda driver immediately fled the scene of the accident he had wrought, leaving devastation behind.
However, the rampage did not terminate there. At approximately 2:16 pm, the CHP was alerted to another collision on US-101 southbound involving the same Mazda SUV, which had again engaged another vehicle aggressively. Still, the vehicle became inoperable this time, sealing the aggressive driver’s arrest at the scene. Additional investigation linked the same driver to another earlier accident on SR-12 at Stony Point Road, where a vehicle was forced off-road and overturned, fortunately without injuries.
There's also a probe into further incidents potentially tied to the same Mazda earlier in the day by the Cotati Police Department. The suspect is now facing multiple charges, including Murder, Felony DUI, and Assault with a Deadly Weapon, as confirmed by the bookings at Sonoma County Jail.
