Tampa's Department of Solid Waste has made critical changes to garbage and recycling schedules to brace for the storm's impact. According to the Tampa Government website, residential and commercial collection services will be paused this upcoming Thursday. For residents, there will be a suspension of garbage and recycling on this day, along with a continuous halt of yard waste and SWEEP services until an unspecified future date.

In advance of the storm's arrival, residents should bundle and secure any curbside debris. The McKay Bay Transfer Station, located at 114 S. 34th St, will remain open to facilitate debris disposal for city residents at no extra charge. With operating hours from 7 am to 7 pm starting yesterday and from 7 am to 5 pm today, the facility is preparing for additional intake before closing on Wednesday and Thursday as the city braces for further weather challenges.

Further assistance comes in the form of blue dumpster containers strategically placed in specific locations to aid with post-Hurricane Helene cleanup efforts. These containers can be found at addresses such as 103 Bermuda Ave. and 655 Geneva Pl., offering residents a no-cost option for vegetative and household storm debris disposal. The initiative is a community-driven effort, with the encouragement for individuals to help those who might be elderly or infirm in disposing of debris. As quoted from the Tampa Government news release, "I believe if we all chip in a little, we can get the remaining debris collected ahead of Hurricane Milton. Neighbor’s helping neighbors is what makes our community great," shared Larry Washington.

To stay updated on service changes, residents can download the Tampa Trash and Recycling app for real-time alerts. Those requiring additional information or assistance can reach out to the City of Tampa Utilities Call Center through the contact number provided on the city's website. Moreover, New Tampa residents have been directed to contact Hillsborough County Solid Waste Management for storm debris collection specifics in their area, acknowledging the broader network of support being mobilized in preparation for Hurricane Milton's anticipated challenges.
