The Texas Department of Public Safety is making weekend errands a bit more manageable for state residents needing to renew or replace their driver licenses or identification cards. Announced earlier this week, select driver license offices across the Lone Star state will be open for half-day appointments each Saturday through the end of October. This initiative aims to accommodate individuals unable to visit during the regular weekdays due to work or personal commitments.
Appointments, which are available on a first-come first-served basis can be scheduled for October 5, 12, 19, and 26. These slots can be booked online by visiting the official Texas DPS website. Not only renewals and replacements are catered to; depending on the location, some offices may also accept appointments for services to new Texas residents.
DPS experienced a significant no-show rate during last month's offer of Saturday appointments. As reported by the DPS website, about 30 percent of the individuals who booked an appointment did not turn up or cancel in September. That's approximately one out of every three people wasting an appointment slot that could have been utilized by someone else in need.
In light of this, DPS is urging customers who can't make their appointments to cancel them, thus allowing others the opportunity to avail these services. The department emphasizes that no-shows significantly hamper their capacity to serve the public efficiently. For a list of participating offices or more information on what documentation to bring to your appointment, visit the DPS website.
