Three individuals were hospitalized after a major traffic collision that led to a power outage in Allegan County, according to multiple sources. The crash, involving an SUV and a truck, occurred yesterday, and the aftermath of the incident disrupted the tranquility of Salem Township. Reports from WOODTV indicate the crash happened just after 5 p.m. when the eastbound SUV failed to obey a two-way stop sign at the crossroads of 144th Avenue and 30th Street, which then resulted in the SUV colliding with a northbound truck.
The Allegan County Sheriff's Office stated the sole occupant of the truck and two passengers from the SUV were taken to a hospital for treatment. Reflecting on the factors leading to the injuries, the Allegan County Sheriff pointed out, according to WWMT, "Seatbelt use" as a significant element in the resultant trauma, though neither speed nor alcohol were considered contributing agents to the accident.
Agreeing with the findings of local deputies, coverage by WKZO further mentioned that alcohol and speed do not appear to have been factors in the crash. The incident swiftly escalated from an emergency traffic situation to a community disruption as the collision's force severed the electrical lifeline to the surrounding area, leaving residents without power. Crews were promptly dispatched to contend with the electrical aftermath, endeavoring to restore normalcy to the affected households.
The immediate area around the intersection of 144th Avenue and 30th Street was closed temporarily to facilitate the accident investigation. Once the area was cleared and assessed for safety, reports from the sheriff’s office confirmed the intersection had since reopened.
