Tragedy struck Monterey Township yesterday evening when a car ran a stop sign at 30th Street and 134th Avenue, resulting in a devastating collision with a northbound semi-truck. The accident claimed the lives of two individuals in the car, as reported by WZZM 13. The crash occurred just after 8 p.m., and upon impact, the semi-truck, which was loaded with milk, overturned, causing a significant spill on the roadway.
While the identities of the deceased have not been released pending notification of family members, it has been confirmed that both occupants of the car died at the scene, "They were both pronounced dead at the scene," per a statement obtained by WZZM 13, the semi-truck's driver walked away without injuries.
The aftermath of the accident led to the closure of the intersection for several hours, the clean-up required to manage the spillage was extensive, noted FOX 17 News. As Allegan County Deputies indicated, "The intersection was shut down for several hours for cleanup," highlighting the degree of disruption caused by the incident.
The road has since been reopened to traffic.
