Following the crash, law enforcement determined the young driver to be impaired. He was subsequently arrested and is currently awaiting a prosecutor’s review. In an effort to deter future incidents, Michigan State Police officials urge motorists to avoid driving under the influence of any substances. "Once again we see someone who decided to get behind the wheel while impaired," F/Lt Mike Shaw said in the statement obtained by The Detroit News.
In Shaw's message, a reminder was made to the public that there are many options available besides driving impaired, emphasizing the unnecessary risks taken when one chooses to ignore them. "This crash could have been a lot worse. We are reminding drivers to not get behind the wheel while impaired. There are too many other options available," Shaw told Michigan State Police Second District, acknowledging the severity of the situation.
