A tragic event unfolded in Warren over the past weekend, where a 26-year-old man with a serious medical condition and his mother were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide. The incident occurred in the 13000 block of Geoffrey Drive. According to police, a 33-year-old man claimed that after waking up yesterday morning, his mother pointed a gun at him. He managed to escape and seek help from a neighbor's house, where he called 911 at around 8:22 a.m. The police, upon their arrival, heard gunshots while trying to establish communication with the mother inside the residence and subsequently discovered the bodies.

The investigation is being handled by the Warren Police Department, which noted the mother reportedly had a mental health history, as stated in the reports from WXYZ. The situation has left the community in shock, with neighbors and over two dozen family members gathered outside the residence, visibly distraught and seeking comfort in each other's embrace. The police have assured that there is no threat to the public and are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.

The deceased have been identified as a Warren woman and her 26-year-old son. Joan Knox, the 70-year-old grandmother of the victim, in an interview with The Detroit News, described her grandson as her "joy" and highlighted the difficulties he faced with a tumor behind his eye, as well as the health struggles of the mother, who was a "great single mom." Knox lamented the lack of support her family received, despite the severe toll their health conditions were exacting on their lives, saying, "And she kept she saying she was tired, tired, tired, ‘I need a break.’ She kept checking programs to get the resources she needed and there was none because he was not born with this debilitating disease, she couldn’t get any help."

First responders at the scene attempted life-saving measures but were unable to save the mother or son. The son had previously undergone two surgeries that reduced the size of his tumor, and his mother had been taking him to treatments while dealing with her own health issues, which included cancer and sleep deprivation, Joan Knox told The Detroit News. The incident remains under investigation, and the police have requested anyone with information about the incident to call 586-574-4741, as reported by ClickOnDetroit.
