The Metropolitan Police Department is actively seeking the public's help to identify a suspect involved in a retail theft case quickly. The incident occurred on Thursday, around 9:00 a.m., when a thief struck a store on the 1100 block of New Jersey Avenue, Southeast. According to the MPD's press release, the suspect had an employee unlock an alarmed shelf and then forcibly shoved the worker aside to make off with the merchandise.
The suspect made their escape on foot immediately following the theft. The MPD is now reaching out to anyone with information on the suspect's identity or event details to come forward. The police, however, advise against any personal intervention, urging witnesses to instead contact law enforcement directly at (202) 727-9099 or to send an anonymous tip via text to the department's designated TIP LINE at 50411.
To encourage community cooperation, the MPD has offered a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of the responsible individual(s). This reward is part of their wider initiative to deter crime and engage the community in maintaining public safety throughout the District of Columbia.
