In the Waterford Township community, a young man lost his life in a motorcycle accident after driving under the influence. Official reports from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office conveyed that 21-year-old Lucas Horsch was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Cooley Lake Road near Switzerland Street in Commerce Township, as detailed on CBS News Detroit.
During the early hours of Saturday, after midnight, Horsch's motorcycle crossed the centerline, veered off the road and he was ultimately ejected from his bike. The impact caused him to slide into a homeowner's driveway. Despite wearing a helmet, the injuries he sustained proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital. An autopsy, later revealed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.12%, a figure that exceeds Michigan's legal limit of 0.08% according to WXYZ.
The loss resonates with the perennial issue of drunk driving, a danger that law enforcement and community advocates tirelessly campaign against. The authorities also noted that Horsch allegedly did not possess a motorcycle endorsement, which may suggest a lack of proper training and experience on the motorcycle.
Further investigations by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office's Crash Reconstruction Unit are ongoing to determine the full scope of circumstances that led to this tragedy. "Authorities say he did not have a motorcycle endorsement and crash investigators say it appears a lack of experience may have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit," Audacy reported.
