In a recent drug bust in Worcester, a local police officer, working in conjunction with the DEA Worcester HIDTA, apprehended a man on charges of cocaine trafficking. The arrest of 35-year-old Ronny Paredes-Suarez took place yesterday after officers involved in an ongoing investigation stopped his vehicle on Myrtle St. According to the Worcester Police Department's official press release, Paredes-Suarez was found in possession of a significant quantity of cocaine hidden in his Honda.
Following the traffic stop, a K9 unit from the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office was called to the scene. With the dog's alert indicating the presence of narcotics, a hidden compartment was located in the vehicle. In assisting with the stop, the K9 helped uncover what turned out to be 100-199 grams of cocaine. After retrieving the drugs, Paredes-Suarez of Millbury St. was arrested and now faces trafficking charges.
The Worcester Police Department’s collaboration with federal agencies underlines an ongoing commitment to tackling the scourge of drug trafficking within the community. The HIDTA program, designed to reduce drug trafficking and production in the United States, seems to have demonstrated its value with this latest bust. The arrest of Paredes-Suarez serves as a single strand within a larger web of drug-related investigations and enforcement actions.
