A 12-year-old from the Issaquah area commandeered his grandfather's car and embarked on an extensive, unauthorized journey across the Cascade Mountains, ultimately leading police on a pursuit through Moses Lake. The Grant County Sheriff's Office was put on alert by Issaquah police with a tip that the boy may have been driving towards Grant County, as reported by The Olympian.
Deputies ultimately sighted the stolen vehicle curbside on the 900 block of Lowry Street in Moses Lake at approximately 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, only to soon engage in a chase when the boy quickly attempted to abscond the scene. A precision immobilization technique, commonly referred to as a PIT maneuver, was deployed by a deputy to abruptly, and safely, bring the escapade to a halt, as per details provided by KHQ News.
The unplanned itinerary ended without injuries, and the grandfather's car sustained only minor damage through the ordeal. The aftermath saw the young driver apprehended and booked into the Chelan County Juvenile Justice Center. Charges on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and felony eluding have been placed against him. This account was corroborated by further information from KIRO 7.
