An 18-year-old man sought for a Memphis murder has been arrested in Atlanta, the U.S. Marshals Service confirmed. The suspect, identified as Demetrio Ceballos, was detained without incident on Monday and is now awaiting extradition to Shelby County to face charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault. FOX13 Memphis reported that Ceballos is accused in the fatal shooting of Rozelle White, which occurred on March 25 on the 4400 block of Millbranch Road in Whitehaven.
The incident, taking place at a convenience store, was first brought to light by the Memphis Police. A search warrant for his arrest was later issued on September 27. Found in Atlanta, Ceballos was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Task Force, following an investigation that led the MPD Fugitive Apprehension Team to believe he was located there, as reported by WREG.
Working in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Service task force in Memphis, known as the Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force, their counterparts in Georgia assisted in the apprehension of Ceballos. A statement obtained by Action News 5 detailed that the task forces joined efforts to secure the arrest.
The joint task force operation serves as a reminder of the cross-jurisdictional collaboration necessary to apprehend individuals accused of serious crimes. With Ceballos now awaiting the legal proceedings, it marks an important step for the community affected by the March incident. While the process of extradition is underway, officials have not yet announced a timeline for when Ceballos will be transported back to Memphis.
