The manhunt for the alleged gunman in last weekend's Attleborough shooting has come to a close as the suspect was captured by police. Authorities arrested 33-year-old Jacob Lacourse, as they had earlier identified him as a suspect in the incident that left a 58-year-old man wounded. According to NBC Boston, Lacourse was found at a residence on Dean Street and taken into custody without incident by the Attleborough Police Department on Tuesday.
Lacourse now faces charges including assault and battery with a firearm and carrying a firearm without a license. He was arraigned in Attleborough District Court, where he has been held without bail, quickly to set a precedent that community safety won't be lightly regarded. Police also took into custody Alexandra Elliott, 30, and charged her with accessory after the fact and intimidation of a witness, as per a statement obtained by WHDH. Elliott is anticipated to appear in court on Wednesday.
The shooting incident took place on Oakland Avenue around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, with police finding the injured 58-year-old who was promptly transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. After an intense investigation, a warrant for Lacourse's arrest was issued, concluding with his apprehension a few days later.
The pursuit of Lacourse had ratcheted the tension in the Attleborough community, originally throwing the neighborhood into a state of unease when the gunfire erupted. He was described as a white male, approximately 40 years old, with a distinctive shaved head, last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. In their efforts to quickly to diffuse any further threat, police had earlier released two photos of Lacourse, and directed residents to avoid contact, urging them to call local law enforcement immediately upon sighting him. This information was reported by Hoodline.
Lacourse is due back in court on Monday, while the neighborhood begins to process the events of a weekend all too punctuated by violence.
