Grilled cheese enthusiasts in Allston received bittersweet news as Roxy's Grilled Cheese announced the closure of its Allston location after 10 years, inviting patrons to create a few more "cheesy memories" before it shuts its doors for good on November 24. According to their official Facebook post, the beloved spot thanked the Allston community for a decade of support and assured fans that this is not the end, but merely a shift, as their Central Square location will continue to deliver the same energy and, of course, cheesy goodness.
The Allston outpost of Roxy's has been a fixture in the local dining scene since it opened its doors in 2014, but with the business expanding also comes the reality of spatial constraints, making it difficult to house both their restaurant and food truck operations from this small locale, which played a part in their decision to not renew the lease, owner James DiSabatino told MassLive, emphasizing the need to focus on their mobile ventures and the burgeoning Cambridge spot, a multifaceted space complete with a bar and arcade.
Originating as a food truck enterprise back in 2010, Roxy's Grilled Cheese rapidly grew in popularity across the Boston area for its inventive takes on the classic American sandwich, featuring items like the Green Muenster and Hot Honey Bacon. It's not merely a grilled cheese; it's an experience wrapped in golden-brown bread savored by locals and visitors alike.
Though the loss of the Allston location may sting for some, Roxy's is adamant that the spirit of their brand will live on just two miles down the road at Roxy's and Roxy's Arcade, located at 292 Mass Ave., Central Square, Cambridge. There, customers can indulge in grilled cheese and nostalgia-fueled arcade games. Even with one chapter closing, Roxy's Grilled Cheese assures its loyal customer base that they are here to stay, blending dining with fun and crafting delectable experiences far beyond a simple melt.
