To break it down for the community, the City of Arlington, alongside consultants from Livable Plans and Codes, will hold a forum about Form-Based Code. Slated for November 20, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., the event will take place in the City Council Chamber on Abram Street. Guest speakers from Fort Worth and Roanoke will share their experiences, providing context and real-world scenarios that demonstrate the code's impact. Residents are encouraged to join in the conversation and address their queries during a Q&A session planned after the presentation.
The proposed Form-Based Code prioritizes how new buildings meld with public spaces like streets and parks. It aims at a harmonious blend between private and public properties, hence fostering a visually appealing and inviting atmosphere for both visitors and entrepreneurs. According to details provided by the event organizers, applicable changes might include the reorientation of parking lots, the adaptation of building setbacks, and the integration of green spaces.
Once current deliberation processes concerning the Form-Based Code conclude, the City Council will zero in on the decision in December. Four regions were shortlisted for the initial application of these new regulations, proposed to transform sidewalks, parks, and trails into more pedestrian-friendly areas. These areas range from East Abram Street to Mesquite Street, and each comes with its set of strategic considerations for redevelopment prospects and community engagement that will follow the selection.
