A high-speed chase unfolded yesterday afternoon when a man on trial for attempted murder slipped off his court-mandated tether and led authorities on a pursuit through Calhoun County. The suspect, a 41-year-old from Mason, was apprehended after the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office received an alert from Ingham County. FOX 17 reported that the alert was issued around 3 p.m., indicating that the suspect had fled.

Shortly thereafter, a deputy located the suspect's vehicle traveling on I-94 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the support of additional police units. According to WILX, the suspect refused to stop, leading law enforcement on a chase that continued for four miles down I-69 before stopping near mile marker 28.

Upon his arrest, officers discovered a cache of multiple firearms and body armor inside the suspect's vehicle. The individual was then turned over to the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, but the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office is also seeking additional charges related to the incident. WOODTV noted that the arrest and subsequent seizure of weapons remain under investigation.

Officials have not released the identity of a suspect, and the case's specifics continue to raise questions within the communities involved. Law enforcement agencies, including the Michigan State Police, Marshall Police Department, and Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch, assisted in the arrest. The public has been urged to come forward with any information by contacting Lieutenant Curtis Smith at 269-781-0880, or the Calhoun County Consolidated Dispatch at 269-781-0911, to assist in the ongoing investigation.
