An 84-year-old Austin man has been charged with first-degree murder after confessing to the killing of his roommate and her dog, authorities reported. The Austin Police Department responded to a call on November 18 around 1:46 p.m. at 6922 Bryn Mawr Drive, where they found the victims deceased. The woman was later identified as 83-year-old Linda Mlsna, known fondly in her neighborhood as Ms. Jeane, who had lived in her East Austin home for approximately 25 years.
Jack Moore, the alleged perpetrator, was absent from the residence when police arrived, and his whereabouts were initially unknown. It was soon discovered that Moore had used Ms. Mlsna's credit cards to make fraudulent purchases posthumously. According to FOX 7 Austin, Moore was eventually arrested on an unrelated warrant but later confessed to detectives that he killed Mlsna and her dog, subsequently taking her credit cards and then making plans to try and flee the country.
Neighbors and friends have been left stunned and heartbroken over the loss of Ms. Mlsna. "I already miss her," Joyce Kelly, a close friend and neighbor, told KVUE.
Moore, now in custody, has a parole violation in addition to the murder charge. He is currently being held without bond in the Travis County Jail. The Austin Police Department encourages anyone with further information to come forward and provide tips, which can be submitted anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program. As the community grapples with this tragedy, the memory of Ms. Mlsna remains as stark as the light once seen in her bedroom window in the early dawn hours, now a somber reminder of what was lost.
