The Austin Police Department (APD) is seeking the public’s help in tracking down a suspect involved in a vehicular incident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. The incident, which occurred on August 4, at approximately 2:08 a.m., took place in the 10800 block of North Lamar Boulevard, leaving Sauvan Pham deceased at the scene, according to an official APD release.
Details released by APD describe the suspect vehicle as a dark-colored sedan, which was seen fleeing northbound on North Lamar Boulevard immediately following the crash. In a statement released by the Austin Police Department, the department urges anyone with information to come forward and contact the APD's Vehicular Homicide unit at 512-974-8111, or to submit tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
This tragic event marks Austin's 49th fatal crash of the year, adding to a toll that comprises 52 fatalities thus far in 2024. The data reflects a slight decrease from the previous year, which, by the same date, had seen 56 fatal crashes and 59 fatalities. Notwithstanding these statistics, the human cost reflected in each incident remains a persistent concern for local authorities and the community alike.
APD has also announced a potential reward for information leading to an arrest, with up to $1,000 available through the Crime Stoppers program. The original release from APD emphasizes that the investigation into the crash is ongoing, and the department is calling on the community to assist in the pursuit of justice for the victims. Anyone having any knowledge pertaining to the dark-colored sedan or the circumstances of the crash is encouraged to reach out to law enforcement officials.
