
Tragedy struck at the intersection of East Stassney Lane and Teri Road when Kyla Walker was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run incident. The Austin Police Department has released information about the accident which occurred on Sunday, November 10, at approximately 6:29 p.m. Walker, a white female born on January 10, 1985, was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a vehicle that failed to stop.
Investigators are treating this as Austin's 76th fatal traffic incident of the year, tallying up to 81 lives lost on the city's roads. At this point last year, the count was at 77 fatal crashes, resulting in 80 fatalities. The increase, although slight, marks a distressing trend in traffic-related deaths across the city. The hit-and-run driver has not been apprehended and, the circumstances leading to Walker's death are still under active investigation.
Initial reports from the Austin Police Department suggest that the unidentified vehicle involved in the accident left the scene immediately after the crash. Authorities are now seeking any information related to the incident and have encouraged the public to come forward with details that might assist in the investigation.
Community members with knowledge pertaining to the tragic event are urged to contact the APD Vehicular Homicide unit. They may also choose to relay information anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program. A reward of up to $1,000 could be available for any information leading to an arrest, a commitment that underscores the gravity of seeking justice for Walker's untimely demise.
