An Avondale teenager who had been reported missing early Sunday was found the following morning in Utah, alongside 29-year-old Isaac Martin who is now facing kidnapping charges. According to ABC15, the 16-year-old girl was last seen at her residence near Avondale Boulevard and Buckeye Road around 1 a.m. and was reported missing about five hours later. This prompted an urgent search that concluded with law enforcement locating both individuals in Utah early Monday morning.
Details surrounding the teen's disappearance indicated that she may have run away voluntarily with Martin, who was described by police as her "possible boyfriend." A text message was sent by the teenager to her family around 8:50 a.m. Sunday suggested they were traveling towards the Arizona-New Mexico border. As reported by 12News, the girl's family had expressed profound distress over her disappearance, with Misty Milleman, the girl's mother, making an emotional plea: "I woke up to a nightmare. I love you so much. Please come home."
Upon discovery in Kane County, Utah, Martin was taken into custody by authorities and is being charged with kidnapping. The Avondale Police Department is working in coordination with Utah officials to arrange for the teenager's safe return to her parents. Her current well-being is being overseen by the Utah Division of Child and Family Services, ensuring that she remains protected during the transition.
In the meantime, efforts to extradite Martin back to Arizona are underway. Martin, who had close ties to the girl's family, instigated widespread concern for the teen's safety. "There was a stack of papers at the foot of the bed saying goodbye mom," Milleman recounted in an interview obtained by 12News. The girl's departure, marked by letters left for her family members and the taking of her Bible, cast a forlorn tableau of a young life on the precipice of the unknown.
The Avondale Police Department has posted a call for anyone with information on this case to come forth, urging public collaboration to piece together the events leading to the teenager's disappearance and Martin's involvement. Anyone with details on this matter is encouraged to contact Avondale police at 623-333-7001. As this case unravels, it serves as a stark reminder of the complexities wrapped up in the lives of the young and the duty of a community to err on the side of vigilant protection and empathetic understanding.
