Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and city officials are bracing for winter, ensuring that locals can rest easily as the mercury drops. Having rolled out a comprehensive winter weather strategy, the city is praising its readiness to tackle the snow and ice that winter undoubtedly will wheel in. Scott emphasized the city's preparedness, noting in a statement detailed by Fox Baltimore that “Our snow crews are committed to keeping city streets safe this winter, no matter what Mother Nature has in store.”
The Director of Transportation, Corren Johnson, highlighted the extensive resources at the city's disposal, which include, but are not limited to, a $6.8 million budget, 294 pieces of snow clearance equipment, over 300 contractor apparatuses and significant reserves of de-icing materials including 15,000 tons of salt and a 36,000-gallon capacity for salt brine as reported by Fox Baltimore, the preparations also factor in the participation of Baltimore's residents, who are urged to compile emergency supply kits for home and vehicle use and to stand by at home during storms unless travel is necessary.
According to WMAR-2 News, Mayor Scott also stressed the importance of staying informed, urging citizens to sign up for emergency alerts and notifications that can be crucial during a storm and inclement weather.
