Motorists in Blount County faced disruptions yesterday afternoon as emergency services tackled a fire on Topside Road, leading authorities to close a crucial thoroughfare, creating temporary upheaval in the area's transit pattern. The Alcoa Fire Department was quick to respond to the blaze that engulfed an abandoned mobile home, encircled by cast aside vehicles and dense vegetation, which presented a significant challenge for the firefighters on the scene, according to Alcoa Fire Chief Roger Robinson as reported by WVLT News.
Further complications arose when locals near the site reported hearing an explosion prior to the onset of the fire, the source of which and its connection to the inferno remained undetermined as the evening approached. Smoke from the fire was visible across the area while officials from the Alcoa Police Department urged those travelling in the vicinity to seek alternative routes, according to coverage by WBIR.
The imposed road closure stretched from Wrights Ferry Road to Central Boulevard, as revealed by emergency broadcasts, ensuing in a cascade of redirected commutes, as travelers rerouted to adjust to the closure despite the contained nature of the fire by late afternoon since the authorities managed to reign in the flames quenching a final hotspot onto the fading daylight as conferred by the Alcoa Police Department through a statement broadcasted by WATE.
Topside Road was eventually reopened later that same evening, bringing an end to the temporary traffic disruptions and signifying a return to normalcy for Blount County residents, "Please seek alternate routes if you are traveling through the area. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available," the APD stated earlier in the day, according to WBIR. While the fire investigators remained on scene to determine the cause of the fire as per the updates from fire officials. No injuries have been reported in the incident.
