Officers from the Boston Police Department arrested a 13-year-old male juvenile yesterday after he was allegedly found with a firearm in Dorchester. The incident occurred near the Neighborhood Charter School at 197 Centre St., where students reported seeing a person with a gun to the authorities, as detailed on the official Boston Police Department website.
A description of two juveniles and their vehicle, which was later confirmed to have been stolen, was relayed over the radio to officers who responded. Upon arrival at Cheverus St., police noticed the described vehicle and saw one of the youths exit the vehicle while the other stayed inside. Both seemed to be on alert, looking around as if to quickly assess possible escape routes.
Upon the officers' arrival, the young suspects were asked to sit on the ground. One of the juveniles, who had previously been in the driver's seat, disregarded the police directive and began to run, prompting a chase. During the pursuit, officers noticed the suspect holding his waistband and eventually observed him discarding an object over a fence, moments before being apprehended.
A thorough search of the area ensued, leading to the discovery of a silver and black Smith and Wesson SD40VE .40 Caliber firearm, which was located in a pile of leaves. The gun, according to the police report, lacked a serial number and was loaded with ten rounds of ammunition. Police later confirmed the weapon's details on the scene and had the stolen vehicle towed.
The juvenile was arrested and is being charged with multiple firearm-related offenses, including Carrying a Firearm Without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Trespassing. He is expected to be arraigned in the Dorchester District Court. As the matter involves a minor, further details on the case have been limited.
