A 16-year-old boy from Boston was arraigned in Boston Juvenile Court, facing multiple firearms-related charges after a recent non-fatal shooting at the Broadway MBTA station. The incident occurred last Friday during the evening rush hour, causing temporary station closures and passenger shuttling, as per reports from the Suffolk District Attorney's Office.
The juvenile is facing a series of charges, including carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, use of a firearm in a felony, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and unlawful possession of the ammunition. Following the arraignment, a judge ordered the accused held without bail until a further hearing set for Tuesday.
On the evening of last Friday, at around 5:33 p.m., MBTA Transit Police were alerted to gunfire on the Broadway station platform. The shooting left a 23-year-old male with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his right thigh. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment. Investigations led to surveillance footage capturing a group of individuals, including the detained juvenile, involved in the incident.
During the chaotic scene, authorities recovered a copper jacketed, hollow-point bullet from the northbound side of the platform. District Attorney Kevin Hayden, addressing the matter, said, "I thank the Transit police for their strong work so far in this investigation. This was a very chaotic scene with multiple station closures and shuttling of passengers. I am grateful the injuries sustained by the victim is not life-threatening and that no other passengers were hurt," highlighting the severity of the situation yet the fortunate lack of additional injuries, as per the Suffolk District Attorney's Office.
The investigation into the Broadway station shooting is active and ongoing as police work to identify the other individuals involved. The public has been urged to come forward with any information that could assist law enforcement in their efforts to bring all responsible parties to justice and ensure the safety of commuters utilizing the MBTA transit system.
