According to NBC Los Angeles, the incident occurred after police received a report at approximately 4:42 p.m. of a possible DUI driver around Lambert Road and the 57 Freeway.

The responding officers located the vehicle, which was described as being up against a retaining wall on the westbound lanes of Lambert Road, east of the freeway. An altercation ensued shortly after officers approached the vehicle. "Officers made contact with the driver," the Brea Police Department stated. "A short time later, an officer-involved shooting occurred." The man was subsequently taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, as detailed in the police statement obtained by CBS News Los Angeles.

Footage from the scene showed a dark-colored SUV, which is believed to be the suspect’s vehicle, with visible damage and potential bullet holes in the window. This took place after the SUV appeared to be pushed into an intersection, nose-to-nose with a patrol SUV, as reported by CBS News Los Angeles.
