Police are on the lookout for suspects involved in the shooting of a 64-year-old woman in the Bronx, in an incident leaving the local community shaken. The shooting took place yesteraday evening in the Melrose neighborhood, as reported by ABC7NY. Authorities are currently seeking four male suspects, described as wearing all black, who were last observed to be running southbound on Jackson Avenue.
The unsuspecting victim was struck once in the right thigh outside 610 Jackson Ave., around 6:20 p.m. She was subsequently hurried to take to Lincoln Hospital, with medical personnel expecting her to survive the ordeal. As per the account by 1010 WINS, eyewitnesses spotted the men in dark clothes fleeing the scene soon after the gunfire erupted. Two shell casings have been recovered at the site of the shooting, lending physical evidence to a crime that has yet to yield any arrests.
This unfortunate case of violence points to a broader issue within the precinct. The number of shooting victims in the NYPD's 40th precinct has risen by 45.5% compared to last year's data, a somber statistic considering the precinct's recent unveiling of a new stationhouse yesterday.
The incident reinforces the ongoing narrative of innocent individuals caught in the crossfire of the city's persistent issue with gun violence. As of now, no arrests have been made and the investigation continues to unfold. Police sources emphasize that the victim was not the intended target. The 64-year-old woman's condition remains stable as investigators work to untangle the events that led to her injury.
