The steady dance of interstate migration continues unabated between California and Texas, as reported in the Fall 2024 Texas Relocation Report cited by Texas Realtors. Texas has once again proved to be a magnetic spot for those seeking change, with an 8.1 percent share of the state-to-state movers nationwide for the second consecutive year. This resulted in a net gain of approximately 133,000 residents for the Texas State, according to FOX 7 Austin.

Standing out in the move to Texas are Californians, representing the largest group to plant stakes in Texan soil, with 94,000 making the move in 2023—tagging California as the prime source of new Texan residents. Conversely, Texas also sent its own to California, with 39,000 Texans changing their address to the Golden State in the same year, as per data from the U.S. Census noted by Yahoo News. This interstate exchange culminated in a net gain for Texas of about 55,000 California transplants.

While California topped the list, the Sunshine State wasn't far behind in terms of contributing to Texas' population growth. Texas saw a net gain of 13,000 Floridians. On the other hand, the highest net outflows from Texas were headed toward Colorado and North Carolina, underscoring a broader pattern of domestic migration dynamics at play.

It is not just new faces crossing state lines that are reshaping Texas' demographic contours. Within the state's own expansive borders, a remarkable number of residents—approximately 3,356,000—changed their local addresses. In a display of internal mobility, Texas boasted both the greatest number of such movers and the highest percentage (11.14 percent) of any state choosing to relocate within its limits, as per FOX 7 Austin.
