Yesterday evening, Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine neighborhood experienced a disruption when police evacuated four buildings and closed several streets after discovering a "suspicious bag." According to FOX19, the Cincinnati Police blocked off the area surrounding Vine Street between 12th and 14th streets, including the intersections with Race and Walnut Streets, around 6:30 p.m.
The situation escalated when the Cincinnati Fire Department’s Bomb Squad's robot detected what appeared to be wires inside the bag quickly. In response, the bomb squad deployed a water cannon to blast the bag. It was later revealed that the bag contained non-threatening items, including USB wires, as reported by FOX19.
Local12 adds that residents were pre-emptively warned about a possible loud noise similar to a firecracker during the investigation. This was a precaution as bomb technicians worked to ensure the area's safety. Thankfully, no injuries were reported following the incident.
Ultimately, officials found "nothing of concern" in the bag, as Cincinnati police gave an all-clear later that evening. The streets were reopened, and the evacuated residents were allowed back into their homes. The situation was handled effectively to assess and neutralize any potential threats, though the contents of the bag turned out to be harmless, WCPO reports.
