A Commerce Township man, Vincent Vuichard, has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the 2021 killing of his wife, Tatiana Vuichard, a statement from the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office reported. Tatiana, a long-time administrative assistant for the Novi School District, did not appear for work on May 17, 2021, prompting colleagues and later law enforcement to check on her welfare.
In a discovery detailed by ClickOnDetroit, Oakland County deputies found Tatiana's body under a comforter on the bathroom floor of her home. The medical examination concluded that she died from multiple slash and stab wounds. During the trial, Vincent Vuichard's attempt at an insanity defense was not effective, with jurors deliberating for less than a day before convicting him.
Vincent, aging 66, now faces a mandatory life sentence without parole. Before officials discovered Tatiana's body, Vincent had alleged she had left the house to run errands after a domestic dispute, as reported by Hometown Life. However, deputies noticed blood on his shoe and other incriminating evidence, including the scratch marks on Vincent's face when opening the door to speak with them.
The investigation also uncovered additional gruesome evidence in the Vuichard's garage, where deputies found a car containing bloody clothing and cleaning supplies. "Tanya Vuichard was a mother, grandmother, friend, and coworker — her senseless murder is a huge loss to the community," said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald, as The Detroit News stated. McDonald has encouraged domestic violence survivors to seek help, providing contact information for HAVEN's crisis support services.
Sentencing for Vincent Vuichard is set for February 6, 2025, according to court schedules.
