The DeKalb County community is pulling together in an urgent search for Rosa Mae Dawson, an 80-year-old woman with diabetes and in the early stages of dementia who vanished from Decatur. Last sighted on Wednesday at Jenay Court, Dawson was reported as wearing a pink pajama set and black shoes when she went missing—details offered by the DeKalb County police and shared by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Rosa Dawson's family, who have not seen her since her disappearance, are deeply concerned due to her medical condition. "She's also diabetic. So we need to get her her medication, since she hasn’t had it in a couple of days," Ricky Dawson, her son, relayed the gravity of the situation in an interview with FOX 5 Atlanta.
DeKalb County police issued a Mattie’s Call — Georgia's emergency missing alert for disabled or elderly persons — and patrolled her south Atlanta neighborhood the day she went missing. Amidst these efforts, Dawson's family has been distributing fliers along Candler Road, according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
"I miss my mom. We are all looking for her to come back home," Ricky Dawson shared the anguish of the family in an interview with Atlanta News First. Rosa Dawson is described as 5-feet-1-inch tall, weighing 140 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. The family and police are encouraging anyone with information to call the DeKalb County Police Department SVU at 770-724-7710, keeping their hope alive to reunite with Dawson swiftly.
"She is loved, she is missed, and we want to get her back to her family," said Wanda Dunham, Dawson's goddaughter. Her son Ricky can also be reached with tips at 404-376-9209, as detailed by FOX5 Atlanta.
