
Emergency services were called to a serious industrial accident in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh early yesterday morning. According to the City of Pittsburgh news release, a construction worker was involved in a terrifying incident when his arm became trapped in a piece of machinery around 9 a.m. at the junction of O’Hara Street and Thackeray Avenue.
First responders from Pittsburgh Fire, EMS, and Police were swiftly deployed to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the worker in a dire situation, necessitating immediate action. "Medic 5 requested blood to the scene and initiated the Rescue Medicine Care Protocol," as stated in the public safety blotter announcement.
Rescue 1’s medical team carefully dismantled the machine to free the trapped limb. The operation required urgency and precision, showcasing the skill and dedication of Pittsburgh's rescue personnel.
After being freed, the injured man was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The rescue was a team effort by Pittsburgh Fire, Pittsburgh Police, and the University of Pittsburgh Police.
