For Detroit locals eager to be lifelines in emergencies, the City of Detroit has announced a hands-on opportunity to learn critical response skills. The Detroit Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management is set to hold a four-day Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, starting tomorrow and spanning over the following weekend, plus an additional Saturday, November 23.

The training, hosted at the Detroit Police Department’s 4th Precinct, promises to cover a broad array of topics ranging from first aid and AED use to search and rescue, aiming to provide volunteers with a well-rounded skill set for when disaster strikes, the free sessions involve practical insights into fire safety, disaster medical operations, which covers the likes of treating burns and fractures, as well as preparing for the unpredictable.

As published in the City of Detroit, trainees will converge on Thursdays and Fridays between 5:30 pm to 8 pm, and on Saturdays, their day will stretch from 10 am until 4 pm. The intention is clear: to forge a stronger, proactive community ready to respond capably in times of crisis.

Attendance at all four sessions is mandatory for those who wish to receive their certificate of completion. This not only ensures a comprehensive education but fosters a collective sense of commitment, the participants must complete all four sessions to receive their certificate of completion, DETROIT EMS, and Detroit Fire Department will also contribute expertise to the training curriculum confirming a collaborative city effort to prioritize citizen safety.
